Hastings resident Roger D. Larson, 82, slipped quietly into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Friday, January 13, 2017.

Memorial Service will be 11:00AM, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Lee Wigert officiating, followed by a luncheon in Fellowship Hall. Visitation with family will be one hour prior to service. Burial will take place at a later date at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling arrangements.

Roger was born June 16, 1934 to Archie and Minnie (Eich) Larson in Council Bluffs, IA. In his third year of life, he lost both parents. He and his 7-year-old brother Duane moved to live with their grandparents, John and Lillie Eich in Holstein.

Roger was baptized and attended the United Brethern Church in Holstein and graduated in 1952 from Holstein High School. He volunteered for the draft joining the Army in 1953. Roger was stationed and served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955. On May 4, 1957, he married Audrey Meyer and to this union three children were born. Roger worked for A. H. Jones Company in various positions before becoming a salesman, which he loved. He continued in car sales and later became a realtor and sold for Gateway Realty. Larson’s were co-owners of T Bar L western store in Hastings and later opened Larson’s Western Way in Macon, MO for six years. On their return to Hastings he was employed by Adams County Highway Department. Upon retiring, Roger was elected as an Adams County Supervisor where he served
for 11 years.

Roger was a member of the Holstein American Legion and Second Presbyterian Church. During his children’s’ involvement with horses, he was a 4-H leader in both Adams County and in Macon, Mo. While in Missouri he also judged numerous horse shows across the state. During this time the family traveled the mid-west showing Appaloosa horses. This family hobby brought many fond memories and lifelong friendships.

Roger is survived by his wife of 59 years, Audrey Joan; Children, David Duane (Deb) of Hastings, NE, Daniel Dean (Irene) of Canyon Lake, TX, and Jennifer Joan (Mike) Schlager of North Platte, NE; granddaughter, Jessica Larson; step-grandchildren, Crystal (Chris) Patterson, Becky (Aaron) Terry, Mike (Carrie) Heikkinen, Matt (Denise) Heikkinen, Michelle Heikkinen, Mark (Kate) Hemje, and Mackenzie (Jillian) Hemje; and 16 step-great-grandchildren. Along with special cousins; Virginia Hansen, Norman Huckfeldt, and Jolene Gee; Brothers and sisters in-law, Gaylord (Joan) Meyer, Dean (Verna) Meyer, Leon (Marilyn) Meyer, Billie Meyer, Ivan (Delores) Meyer, Kolleen Grams, Veralu (Don) Fritson, Sherri Anderson, Jim (Diana) Meyer, Lori Eiseman, and Bonnie (Larry) Holmberg; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Duane; half-brother, Harold; step- great-grandchildren, Thea and Claire; special cousin, Joyce Mangelsen; brothers-in-law, Marvin Meyer, Ray Grams, Charles Eiseman, Doyt Meyer, and Alan Anderson; sisters-in-law; Maudie Meyer and Martha Larson.
