Former Hastings resident, Irene G. Smidt, 98, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, Nebraska.
Services will be Monday, October 3, 2016; 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Pastor Don Canady officiating. Burial will be Monday, October 3, 2016; 1:30 P.M. in Hanover Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetery, rural Hastings. Memorials may be given to the Hanover Presbyterian Cemetery Association. Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2016; 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Irene G. Smidt was born September 14, 1918 to I.O. and Tena (Evans) Krull in Adams County, Nebraska. She married Richard H. Smidt on October 9, 1938 at the Second Presbyterian Church, Hastings, Nebraska. She spent all of her life in Nebraska, mostly in Adams County. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed sewing towels for her family and making her infamous “buns” for everyone.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, LaMoine; two sisters, Lena Reiber & Marie Busboom; and five brothers, Jake, Hank, Klaus, John & Lloyd.
